We are a family run adventure tourism operation, offering backcountry ski touring and alpine hiking vacations based out of our backcountry lodge. Located at the north end of the Valkyr Range, high above the Arrow Lakes, the lodge sits in a beautiful alpine basin at the foot of Naumalten Mountain. The Valkyr Range is a sub range of the Southern Selkirk Mountains that run though the beautiful Kootenays region of British Columbia, Canada. The Selkirks and Kootenay regions of British Columbia have become world renown for having some of the best powder skiing in the world and for the incredible beauty of the alpine areas in the summer.
Valkyr Lodge is a new, handcrafted, big timber backcountry lodge at an elevation of 2,208 m (7,250 ft). The abundance of picture windows allow you to continue enjoying the surrounding mountain scenery even while you are inside the lodge. We also have a separate sauna building so that you can relax and rejuvenate after a hard day of playing. Our backcountry lodge offers many amenities and comforts such as hot showers and indoor plumbing in both the lodge and the sauna, fully outfitted beds in 6 semi-private rooms, comfortable furniture, fully outfitted kitchen, and internet access. It is truly a spot of comfort in a pristine wilderness setting.
In the winter, we offer weeklong ski touring vacations - some of the worlds best powder skiing. There are 7 unique zones accessible from the lodge that cover all aspects and inclines so there is never a shortage of daily destinations. From mountain peaks and alpine bowls to steep treed skiing and couloirs you will always be able to find the runs that best suit your ability level and the current snow conditions.
In the summer we offer multi day alpine hiking trips through beautiful alpine areas filled with flowers, lakes, and rocky peaks and ridgelines. Stunning panoramic views of the Valkyr, Valhalla and Monashee mountain ranges greet you at every turn.
Depending on your skill level and preferences you can choose between guided and catered, catered and self guided or self guided and self catered trip options. Group sizes range from 8 - 12 people.
Valkyr Adventures is a member of the Backcountry Lodges of British Columbia Association (BLBCA), a professional organization that strives to maintain high quality standards in the ski touring industry. Our operation is non-mechanized and there is no road access to Valkyr Lodge. Access is by helicopter or foot, thereby creating a truely remote backcountry experience.
